*Cam Newton, the only MVP in Carolina Panthers history, believes his “individual success” is more important than a Super Bowl win.
His 2015 season was a franchise high point, nearly leading the Panthers to a Super Bowl victory. However, as SI.com reports, their weaknesses were exposed in a loss to the Denver Broncos.
Newton firmly said no when asked ahead of Super Bowl LIX if he would trade his MVP award for a Super Bowl ring. During an appearance on First Take, he emphasized the importance of individual impact over championships, pointing out that several lesser-known quarterbacks have won rings. Newton believes his MVP proves he did his job.
“What’s more important, impact or championships?” Newton told host Stephen A. Smith, NBC Sports reports. “Brad Johnson won a Super Bowl. Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl. Respectfully, Nick Foles won a Super Bowl.”
Cam added, “I know that’s not the popular pick. My take is I’m taking individual success because I did my job.”

Meanwhile, the Eagles and Chiefs will face off in Super Bowl 2025, a rematch of their 2023 showdown. The game is set for Sunday, February 9, with kickoff at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Entertainment for Super Bowl 59 includes a halftime performance by Kendrick Lamar. Jon Batiste will perform the National Anthem, Lauren Daigle and Trombone Shorty will sing America the Beautiful, and Ledisi will perform Lift Every Voice and Sing.
The NFL revealed in September that Lamar will headline the 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl halftime show. The rapper shared the news in a tweet, writing “Super Bowl LIX. New Orleans” and posting a link to a YouTube video.
Apple Music announced on Jan. 23 that SZA will join Lamar on the field.
