*Bill Murray is putting an end to speculation about his relationship with Kelis.
During an appearance on Sway In The Morning last month, the legendary actor/comedian spoke about his love for hip-hop and how it led to a friendship with the singer. While there had been rumors that the two were romantically involved, Murray made it clear that they were never an item.
“I feel like hip-hop has surrounded me,” Murray shared, Too Fab reports. “I was always working, and hip-hop was always circling, and like, my son knows every lyric.”
He also recalled a party with Barack Obama, marveling at the former president’s deep knowledge of hip-hop. “I said, ‘How the hell could that guy be president? He spends all his time with headphones on, how does he know every lyric?'”

Murray explained that he immersed himself in the genre by recording episodes of “Yo! MTV Raps” to catch up on rap music, as his busy schedule had kept him from following it earlier.
“I was working all the time, so I didn’t listen to hip-hop like I listened to earlier music like in the ’60s or ’70s because I was working, and then I had a family, and that just cuts into my personal time,” he quipped.
That exploration is what led him to Kelis. He first noticed her in the music video for Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s “Got Your Money,” where she was featured.
“I was fascinated. I met this girl named Kelis … which I got great press that I was dating her, which really like, raised my cred a lot,” Murray joked. “That particular song, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, that song just kills me. I love that video, and I watched and I kept going that’s the silliest thing, how did I miss that when it came out in the first place?”
“It’s so crazy, and I’m going, ‘Who is the girl with the red hair?’ And it was Kelis, so I just had to meet her sometime,” he continued. “She turns out to be spectacular.”
Rumors of a romance between Murray, 74, and Kelis, 45, started circulating in June 2023, with reports that they had been spending time together in the U.S. and abroad. However, Murray reiterated that they are just friends.
“I spoke with her recently. She bought land in Kenya, in Africa,” he shared. “She’s not afraid of the dark, she just goes out there and goes, ‘Well, I think I’ll just go to Africa and start a farm.’ She’s amazing.”
Though their connection is purely platonic, Murray playfully added that he might be available if Kelis ever needs help.
“One of us could be on the rebound any second,” he joked. “Anything could happen. She might need a plowman down there.”
