*Beyoncé has postponed her highly anticipated announcement, originally set for January 14, in light of the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
“The January 14th announcement will be postponed to a later date due to the devastation caused by the ongoing wildfires around areas of Los Angeles. I continue to pray for healing and rebuilding for the families suffering from trauma and loss,” Beyoncé wrote in an Instagram statement.
“We are so blessed to have brave first responders who continue to work tirelessly to protect the Los Angeles community,” she added.
California’s wildfires, fueled by strong Santa Ana winds, have claimed over 20 lives and left many homeless and in desperate need of help. The Palisades Fire, the largest wildfire currently burning, has scorched over 23,000 acres and is only 18% contained, posing a threat to Brentwood, Encino, and Westwood. Evacuation orders are in place for 88,000 Los Angeles residents, with an additional 89,000 under evacuation warnings, requiring them to be ready to evacuate at any time, NBC News reports.
Beyoncé’s BeyGood foundation has set up an LA Fire Relief Fund and donated $2.5 million to “directly support families who lost their homes and community organizations at the forefront of relief.”
Beyoncé shared news about the donation via the foundation’s Instagram page.
“Please join us in supporting with whatever you can,” she added.
“Los Angeles, we stand with you. … The fund is earmarked to aid families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes, and to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires,” the BeyGood caption reads.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting and speculating about Beyoncé’s major announcement, with many believing it could be the reveal of world tour dates.
