*Just like the 2024 model, the 2025 Mazda CX-90 is giving the looks, feels, and comfort, with a variety of interior styles to suit a variety of needs. I drove two different trims – the PHEV Premium Plus and the 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus – considering variation in drive and power.
The interior of both had slight differences, but for the most part, consisted of the same features.
Let’s get into it.
Design & Features: Stepping into this big-bodied SUV, immediately I noticed the consistency in style throughout the cabin. From the front to the rear seats, everyone gets to experience Mazda’s beauty and design. Captain chairs (in the seven-passenger trim) are afforded to front and middle-row passengers, while rear passengers enjoy adjustable seats and adult-sized legroom.
The interior paneling, while certainly customizable, is sustained throughout the cabin. The CX-90 is also available in an eight-passenger capacity.

Each model I drove offered a different middle passenger row feature. The PHEV featured a folding cup holder, creating a narrow aisle for bags or extra legroom for the third row. The S model offered a full center console with armrests, and storage spaces, including a drawer and cup holders. I preferred the center console as it gave the middle row a more stabilizing space and feel a lot more grown up.

I can’t talk about the design without of course highlighting the panoramic sunroof. Always a lovely feature, but especially in a big vehicle like this one, brightening the space and giving everyone a little extra comfort for long drives.
Can we take a moment to talk about the grille? Absolutely love the black mesh look which is carried over from the previous year. It’s giving luxury! The dark finishes against the silver trim bring the look altogether.

Safety features can’t be missed in the CX-90. From 360° camera views to make parking and reversing super easy, to smart brake support, drivers and riders certainly feel taken care of.
One of my least favorite features is the infotainment display, which isn’t a touch screen. When considering other vehicles in its class, the Mazda CX-90 could benefit from an extended monitor for greater ease of navigation. It comes in at 12.3 inches. The great thing is though, however, AirPlay connects wirelessly. Charging is easy with plenty of USB-c charging ports throughout the cabin and a wireless charging deck up front.
The Drive: I drove the 2024 CX-90 and was highly disappointed with the drive. But both these 2025 CX-90 models offered smooth rides and awesome control on the roads. Like the 2025 CX-70, they handled road imperfections with ease. Each ride was pleasant. The Turbo had some added power behind the gas, a slightly different drive than the PHEV, though it too had a nice push.

Some subtle differences in power and drive options exist between the two different models. As a hybrid, the PHEV offers an EV driving mode option and tends to give drivers a bit more MPG. But be forewarned, this model doesn’t offer fast charging options and could take up to 2 hours to fully charge for slightly more bang for your gas budget. I didn’t get the opportunity to charge it up, but did appreciate the improved gas mileage overall. The PHEV is meant to get 56 MPGe and 25 MPG. The S Premium trim gets about 25 MPG as well.
Overall, I enjoyed the luxury SUVs and all they had to offer. Love the improved performance and variety of options.
