*South African Popstar Tyla has reached platinum status with her hit song “Water.”
The Sammy Soso-produced track was released in 2023 and has sold over one million equivalent units, marking the singer’s first award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
On Spotify, “Water” has amassed over 338 million streams.
The song is nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best African Music Performance category.
“Water” appears on Tyla’s upcoming self-titled debut album, out March 1.
The rising songstress discussed the inspiration behind the track while speaking to Zane Lowe of Apple Music.
“For now, my introduction to the world, I just wanted to be clean, Tyla. I want people to get to know my name and get to know my sound because my first project is going to be Tyla in music form,” she explained, per Rated R&B. “So, I felt like self-titled would’ve been the best way to go.”
On March 21, Tyla will launch her headlining European tour in Oslo, Norway, and conclude on April 1 in London.
Tyla’s North American tour begins April 22 in San Fransisco and ends May 28 in Minneapolis.
