*Tory Lanez filed an ethics complaint against attorney Shawn Holley who briefly represented Lanez during his trial.
The rapper (born Daystar Peterson) is currently serving a ten-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, claims in a complaint that his former lawyer, Holley, had undisclosed connections to Roc Nation and Megan Thee Stallion, creating a conflict of interest in his case. Lanez argues that Holley’s involvement in the entertainment industry, including producing the show “Reasonable Doubt” (which featured a Megan Thee Stallion song), showed her alignment with Roc Nation’s interests. Additionally, he alleges Holley withdrew from his case abruptly after he declined a plea deal, leaving him little time to secure new representation.
The attorney walked away from Lanez a mere five days before he was sentenced. The attorney claims that she quit after Lanez decided to point the finger at Megan’s friend, Kelsey Harris, as the real shooter. Holley did not wish to pursue this angle.
“I am not comfortable advancing the Kelsey Defense,'” she reportedly explained to Tory in an email. “Primarily because I don’t find it to be a viable strategy.”
According to TMZ, Lanez is seeking a refund of the fees he paid to Holley and is calling for the California State Bar to take disciplinary action against her.
Meanwhile, Holley has dismissed his accusations and noted that the “Reasonable Doubt” series is not connected to the Roc Nation brand.
“Roc Nation has nothing to do with the television show Reasonable Doubt, which I co-produce,” she said.
“Mr. Peterson made these claims over a year ago to the State Bar,” she explained. “Which rejected them and promptly closed the matter.” To leave absolutely no room for misinterpretation, Holley again announced: “I have never had business ties to Roc Nation.”
