*Sony Pictures released the first trailer for “28 Years Later,” the sequel to the iconic horror films “28 Days Later” and “28 Weeks Later.”

The latest installment stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes – with the trailer featuring a zombie incarnation of Cillian Murphy’s character Jim, from “28 Days Later.”

The original film was written by Alex Garland and directed by Danny Boyle, while “28 Weeks Later,” was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. Garland and Boyle returned to produce the third film, with Boyle directing from Garland’s script. Murphy is an executive producer of the film, which Sony describes as a “terrifying new story set in the world created by ’28 Days Later.’” The movie’s tagline is: “Time didn’t heal anything.”

“It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected,” the synopsis states. “One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.”

The film is part of a new trilogy, with Nia DaCosta helming the follow-up, “28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple.”

“28 Years Later” will be released in theaters on June 20, 2025. Watch the new trailer above.
