*Netflix is developing a sequel to “A Different World” that will focus on Dwayne and Whitley’s daughter at Hillman College.
According to Ice Cream Convos, the half-hour comedy series is being created by writer and executive producer Felicia Pride (“Bel-Air,” “Grey’s Anatomy”), along with original series contributors Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Bythewood.
“A Different World” is a spin-off from “The Cosby Show” and ran on NBC for six seasons, from 1987 to 1993. The series centered on Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) and her fellow students at a fictional HBCU called Hillman College.
The sequel will continue the legacy with a focus on Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison). The casting details are not yet available, but producers have been discussing with original cast members about their involvement.
Earlier this year, the cast of “A Different World” reunited for a 10-city HBCU tour to celebrate the show’s 35th anniversary.

According to People, the reunion tour included appearances from Darryl M. Bell, Charnele Brown, Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Dawnn Lewis, Cree Summer, Glynn Turman, and Sinbad.
“The cast of A Different World has come together to celebrate our 35-year legacy and make more history with today’s HBCUs and tomorrow’s leaders!” Bell told People at the time.
“Our mission goes beyond nostalgia. We’re on a quest to raise awareness and enrollment for HBCUs nationwide,” he continued. “By leveraging the star power and cultural impact of A Different World, we aim to inspire a new generation to choose HBCUs as their academic homes. We’re not just telling a story; we’re rewriting the narrative.”
