*Meagan Good wants to set the record straight about a video that a lot of people interpret as Michael Ealy dissing her man Jonathan Majors.
The actress called out a viral clip of Ealy, her “Think Like a Man” costar, seemingly ignoring her boyfriend, Jonathan Majors. In the clip originally posted by the Instagram account NitecastMedia, Ealy gives Good a huge hug, lifting her off the ground in the process, and then greets rapper D Smoke and his wife, seemingly giving Majors the cold shoulder as he stands unacknowledged at the PowerPlayers Mix & Mingle event in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
The Shade Room shared the footage, garnering over 250,000 likes, and the video garnered over 15 million additional views on X/Twitter. As the clip went viral, users speculated that Ealy’s apparent snubbing of Majors was an intentional rebuke of the actor, who was convicted of assault and harassment in December after a highly publicized domestic dispute with his then-girlfriend.
In addition to “Think Like A Man,” Good and Ealy have shared the screen before, starring together in the 2019 psychological thriller “The Intruder.”
Their on-screen chemistry and long-standing friendship made the viral clip (watch it below) all the more surprising to fans, prompting immediate speculation about the dynamics at play.
However, in her response to The Shade Room’s post, Good insisted that Majors and Ealy greeted each other immediately before the viral footage began.
“So we’re just gonna edit out the first part of the video where Jonathan and Micheal exchange a big hug first and then speak life over each other — ‘before’ he gives me a big brother hug?” she wrote.
Good adds: “Lol smh super unfortunate how people don’t have anything better to do than project on others and intentionally perpetuate negative misguided commentary on life snippets they have no real context to. It’s sad. Sigh. But still, God bless y’all.”
Some users also noted that at the very beginning of the clip, Ealy does appear to be exiting an embrace with Majors, though it happens so subtly and quickly that it’s not entirely clear, EW.com noted in its coverage.
As of this posting, reps for Ealy and Majors have not responded to requests for comment. Despite the viral speculation, Meagan Good’s insistence on setting the record straight highlights the complexities of interpreting brief, context-lacking social media clips.
In addition to her latest Netflix film, “Tyler Perry’s Divorce in Black,” Good has also been active in various advocacy and mentorship programs, especially focusing on empowering young women in the entertainment industry. Known for her versatility, she has continuously reinvented herself through roles in TV series, and movies, and through her work behind the camera as a director.
Ultimately, the viral incident has become another example of how quickly public perception can be influenced by fleeting moments, and how celebrities often find themselves needing to clarify the full picture to their audience.
