*Months after its worldwide premiere, the official trailer for the highly anticipated documentary “Luther: Never Too Much” has been unveiled for the moviegoing public.
According to Revolt, the trailer was released Sept. 12 by Giant Pictures and CNN Films. Arriving in theaters Nov. 1, “Luther: Never Too Much” centers around the life and career of the late R&B legend Luther Vandross, as told by the singer himself.
“Using a wealth of rarely seen archives, Luther tells his own story with assistance from his closest friends and musical collaborators including Mariah Carey, Dionne Warwick, Valerie Simpson and Roberta Flack,” the trailer’s description revealed. “The film relives the many stunning moments of Luther’s musical career while exploring his personal life, health struggles, and a lifelong battle to earn the respect his music deserved.”
The unveiling of the “Luther: Never Too Much” trailer comes after the documentary arrives at this year’s Sundance Film Festival in January. In June, the film generated talk again after its screening at the Tribeca Film Festival.
“It was a joy to work on this film,” “Luther: Never Too Much” director Dawn Porter expressed in a statement to People. “Luther was a spectacularly talented performer, composer, and producer. His influence was found in multiple genres, and it was a delight to discover each one. It has been so much fun to see longtime fans remember why they love him, and new fans come to understand his brilliance.”
During his life, Vandross was a musical cornerstone full of classic material. Among his hits were “Here and Now,” “Any Love,” “A House Is Not a Home,” “Give Me The Reason,” “Stop to Love,” “Power of Love/Love Power” and “Dance With My Father,” among many others. In 2005, Vandross passed away after suffering complications of a stroke. He was 54.
Commenting on “Luther: Never Too Much,” Giant Pictures General Manager Nick Savva voiced the studio’s love for the film, labeling it “a huge crowd-pleaser and a must-see, not only for existing fans of Luther Vandross but also for those discovering his incredible talents for the first time.”
Film lovers can catch “Luther: Never Too Much” on the big screen when it arrives in theaters later this year. Look for the film to reach even more viewers in 2025 when it comes to CNN, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, and Max.
