*After a two-week manhunt, a Los Angeles man has been arrested for shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend’s puppy.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed in a press release that David Sumlin, 32, was arrested Monday. Sumlin allegedly had a heated argument with his ex on Jan. 2 and threatened to shoot her or the dog, People reports.
“Sumlin held a pillow over the victim’s dog and pointed a firearm into the pillow. Sumlin then stated, ‘It’s either you or the dog,’” the LAPD said.
Sumlin shot “two rounds into the pillow, striking the 4-month-old puppy,” police said. After being transported to an animal shelter, the pet died. It remains unclear what breed of dog it was.
Authorities told CBS News that “firearm used remains outstanding.”
According to KTLA, Sumlin is prohibited by the law from owning a gun and ammunition in California due to his prior convictions of at least four felonies, including attempted robbery and assault with a firearm.
After the puppy killing incident, Sumlin is facing a federal charge of possessing a firearm as a felon, according to KTLA.
People reports that he is currently being held on $50,000 bail.
