*JAY-Z has addressed allegations of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old in 2000 by requesting the accuser either disclose her identity or withdraw her lawsuit against him.
The rapper and business mogul recently filed a motion in federal court challenging the plaintiff’s anonymity. Meanwhile, the accuser’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, has filed a counter-motion to protect her identity.
Social media users have mixed reactions to JAY seeking public disclosure of his accuser’s name, with one person writing, “The only reason Jay-Z wants the victim name public is for public scrutiny with her identity attached in hopes that she will back down because his fans will harass her into silence. But her name was already given to him and his lawyer months ago. So he knows exactly who she is.”
Meanwhile, Hot97 reports that Hov’s legal team stated: “The filing from [JAY-Z’]s attorney, Alex Spiro, specifically requests that the Jane Doe’s identity be disclosed in order to properly defend himself against this false claim through the legal process in a transparent manner.”
Buzbee’s recent filing alleges that JAY-Z sexually assaulted a teenage girl at an afterparty in New York City following the MTV Video Music Awards. The lawsuit was originally filed in October, and initially included Diddy as a defendant and referred to JAY-Z as “Celebrity A.” However, on December 8, the case was refiled to identify JAY-Z as a defendant.
As we reported earlier, in a statement to Page Six, Jay-Z asserted that the accusations were part of a blackmail attempt orchestrated by Buzbee to pressure him into a settlement.
“What [Buzbee] had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle. No sir, it had the opposite effect!” he said.
“Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?” JAY-Z stated, further declaring his readiness to fight the accusations publicly.
“My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims,” he added, referring to his pre-teen daughter, Blue Ivy.
JAY-Z’s filing alleges that Buzbee has a history of targeting prominent individuals with baseless claims and asserts that the lawsuit arose from a refusal to settle.
