*The legacy of iconic entertainer James Brown will take center stage via a new A&E documentary. The four-hour documentary, titled “James Brown: Say It Loud,” will premiere at 8pm ET on Feb. 19, and 20 on A&E.

Interviews, never-before-seen archival footage of Brown and the singer’s beloved music catalog will be featured in the Deborah Riley Draper-directed feature. Among those interviewed will be Mick Jagger, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Bootsy Collins, The Rev. Al Sharpton, Chuck D, Dallas Austin Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis, in addition to Brown’s children Deanna, Yamma, and Larry Brown, reports Rated R&B.

Jagger and Questlove join Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, Peter Afterman, David Blackman, Victoria Pearman, Bruce Resnikoff, Shawn Gee, Zarah Zohlman, Charlie Cohen, and Mari Keiko Gonzalez as executive producers.

“The life of James Brown is significant not only to understand his immense musical impact, which inspires us and other artists to this day but also for the deep and lasting impression he has had on American culture,” Questlove and Black Thought stated. “Brown’s life is a crucial and timely story of struggle, redemption, and self-identity and we are honored to have the chance to share it.”

“I am thrilled to be producing the four-part documentary series with A&E delving into the fascinating life of James Brown,” Jagger added. “He was a brilliant performer who inspired me from the beginning and was deeply committed to the Civil Rights movement. I have always admired James and learned so much from him. I look forward to bringing the series to life.”

First teased in February 2022, “James Brown: Say It Loud” arrives years after Primary Wave Music announced its partnership with the James Brown Estate in December 2021. Under the alliance, Primary Wave owns a stake in the singer’s publishing, master recording income stream, and name and likeness rights, according to Rated R&B. The site cited the New York Times in reporting the estimated $90 million Brown’s assets were sold for.
