*A Georgia man suffered severe injuries in a chemical spill at his job last summer, and now he’s speaking out about how his then-fiancée stayed by his side during the harrowing ordeal.
Preston Cobb, 34, was badly buried 22 days before his wedding, People reports. Per the family’s GoFundMe campaign, “32% of his body was burned, and he has lost 9 toes along with 4 fingers being amputated on his right hand, and 4 fingers on his left hand partially amputated as well.”
So far, “Preston has had 8 surgeries and will have 1 surgery every week the next month in preparation for skin graft surgery on both legs and arms due burns he has received,” the fundraiser states.
Speaking to People, Cobb said he initially told his fiancée she could back out of their wedding following his freak accident on the job.
“I wouldn’t blame her,” Cobb shared with People. “She looked at me like I was crazy.”
Tanesha Oglesby, 33, said his injuries “doesn’t change the person he is inside. It doesn’t change the love that he shows me every single day.”
“I was just thankful that he was still alive,” she told the publication.
The GoFundMe campaign “is to help offset the loss of income due to tending to our hero making sure he is getting stronger physically and mentally. These funds will help with things such as bills, daily living, and help support his wife and daughter Mahogany (16), son Jaikell (3), and his bonus son Armani (9).”
According to People, Preston and Oglesby have known each other for many years as her uncle and his aunt are married.
“I’ve always had a crush on her,” Preston said. The couple got engaged in 2022 and tied the knot on July 22, 2023 — in the hospital after his workplace accident.
“That day showed me that true love never fails, it will always come through,” Preston said.
The fundraiser page notes that since the accident, Tanesha “has been there for him, back and forth from the house to the hospital. She has been there for his ups and downs taking care of our hero, our friend, a father, a cousin, brother and everything in between. She’s defiantly not his rock, but his boulder! He’s able to endure a lot because of this woman along with help of his mother Cynthia.”
Preston “lost his left leg, all the toes on his right foot and all his fingers on both hands except his thumbs. Additionally, his right leg was burned to the knee, both his hands and arms were burned and he lost a piece of his ear,” People writes.
“I knew it was going to be a very long road for recovery,” Preston said. “This is not how I imagined us spending the rest of our lives together.”
Preston has had more than 40 surgeries to date, and Tanesha has been by his side along the way.
“She makes life worth living,” he said. “God knew what he was doing when he put us together. Thank you God. You have literally placed an angel to take care of me and be with me.”
