*The FBI confirms that Donald Trump was indeed shot during the assassination attempt earlier this month.
As we reported earlier, Trump was nearly assassinated at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13 and later stated that he was “shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.”
The 20-year-old shooter was identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. He was killed at the scene of the assassination attempt, authorities said.
Trump was struck in the ear during the re-election rally and blood on his upper right ear and face were visible after the shooting. The FBI confirmed in a statement on Friday that a bullet, whole or fragmented, was the cause of his injury.
“What struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces, fired from the deceased subject’s rifle,” said the agency, per NPR.

A police officer from the local tactical team assigned to Trump’s rally said there was no contact between their SWAT team and the U.S. Secret Service before the former president was shot.
“We were supposed to receive a face-to-face briefing with the Secret Service upon their arrival,” said Jason Woods, the Beaver County team’s lead sharpshooter, to ABC News. “That never happened.”
The U.S. Secret Service responded to reports of a communication breakdown between agencies.
“As it relates to communications on that day, we are committed to better understanding what happened before, during, and after the assassination attempt of former President Trump to ensure that never happens again,” the Secret Service said in a statement, Fox News reports. “That includes complete cooperation with Congress, the FBI and other relevant investigations.”
Meanwhile, the FBI said Trump has agreed to be interviewed as part of the investigation into the assassination attempt.
