*There used to be a time when you broke up with someone, you usually kept it to yourself and/or a few select folks and you kept it movin’. That’s not how it is these days ’cause it’s like you’re compelled to tell the world your break-up business, especially if you’re a “celebrity.”
And so, on his Instagram Stories, rapper and social media star DDG, born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., revealed that he and singer and actress Halle Bailey have decided to part ways. The couple, who initially sparked romance rumors in January 2022 and welcomed their son Halo in late 2023, have chosen to conclude their romantic relationship amicably.
“Dear friends and supporters, After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways. The decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us,” is how DDG expressed his sentiments regarding the split
He emphasized the depth of their bond, noting: “Despite the changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true. We are still best friends and adore each other.”

The couple’s journey together was one filled with admiration and inspiration. In a previous interview with Essence, Bailey reflected on her feelings for DDG, sharing,
“I grew up being on YouTube and would always see the young Black creators and was constantly inspired by them,” she said in Essence’s September/October 2022 cover story. “He was one of them.”
She continued: “I completely forgot about him. But then I saw that he was dropping music, and I really gravitated toward this one song. Coincidentally he messaged me — and the rest is history.”
It’s evident that their connection extended beyond romance, as both have often supported each other’s careers.
Looking ahead, DDG made it clear that he and Bailey will focus on co-parenting and their journeys. “Thank you for your love and encouragement,” he concluded, asking fans for their understanding and support during this transition.

As of now, Halle Bailey has yet to publicly speak about the breakup. She remains a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, acclaimed for her musical talents alongside her sister Chloe in the duo Chloe x Halle. Additionally, she is gaining recognition for her acting role as Ariel in Disney’s live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid,” making waves in both the music and film industries.
While this chapter may be coming to an end for Halle Bailey and DDG, their shared history and mutual respect promise to keep them connected as they navigate their new paths.
