*Bill Condon has signed on to direct Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming biopic on George Clinton, starring Eddie Murphy as the iconic Parliament-Funkadelic frontman.
Virgil Williams is penning the script based on Clinton’s 2017 memoir, “Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You?” This biopic will chronicle Clinton’s influential role in music, exploring the origins of Parliament-Funkadelic. Murphy will also produce alongside John Davis and others, with Clinton involved as an executive producer.
According to the official release, “The film is the untold story of influential pioneer of funk and his tumultuous journey to founding musical collective Parliament-Funkadelic. Known for their outlandish sci-fi themes, surreal sounds and psychedelic shows, Clinton and his band’s wild road redefined music and culture.”
Murphy and Condon last collaborated on “Dreamgirls,” winning Golden Globe, SAG, and Critics Choice Awards and earning Eddie an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
The Hollywood icon recently reprised his role as Alex Foley in the fourth installment of “Beverly Hills Cop,” now streaming on Netflix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest installment of “Beverly Hills Cop” was part of a one-time licensing deal between Netflix and Paramount. Former Viacom CEO Bob Bakish said the licensing deal “will produce a new film based on an iconic IP and further expands our relationship with this important original production client.”
Murphy previously starred in Amazon MGM Studios’ “Candy Cane Lane” and “Coming 2 America.” You can next catch him in “The Pickup” with Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson.
