*The nominations for the 2024 Oscars were announced this morning, with a few surprising snubs, and people of color are mentioned in every acting category.
Lily Gladstone is making history as the first Native American nominated for best actress for her role in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
Colman Domingo is the first Afro-Latino nominated for Best Actor for his performance as “Rustin” in the Netflix civil rights drama. Jeffrey Wright was nominated in the same category for “American Fiction,” while his co-star Sterling K. Brown was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
Domingo joins Jodie Foster, Best Supporting Actress nominee (“Nyad”), as the first two openly gay actors nominated for playing queer characters.
Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” led the 2024 Oscar nominations, while “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig and film star Margot Robbie were shockingly shut out.
The 96th Oscars telecast will be broadcast on Sunday, March 10, and air live on ABC, with host Jimmy Kimmel.
