*Tracee Ellis Ross is set to receive an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Spelman College during the 2023 Commencement ceremony.

The renowned HBCU announced in a press release that Nikole Hannah-Jones, the Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of the 1619 Project, will deliver the keynote address to graduates on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park, GA.

Hannah-Jones will also receive a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.

Ross is an award-winning actress and producer, and CEO and Founder of Pattern Beauty, and executive producer and narrator of “The Hair Tales,” a docuseries about Black women and their hair.  The series debuted on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network and on Hulu in October 2022.

Ross recently produced a ten-episode podcast, “I Am America,” which aims to break through the noise during this divided time in our country in an effort to create space and to heal, per Spelman’s news release.

Earlier this year it was announced that Ross signed on to Eddie Murphy’s new holiday movie titled “Candy Cane Lane.”

According to Variety, Reginald Hudlin is helming the project for Amazon Studios. According to Movieweb, the story is inspired by the childhood holiday experiences of scriptwriter Kelly Younger.

Ross will also star in and EP the animated film “JODIE,” for MTV Entertainment Studio. The project is a spinoff of MTV’s iconic DARIA franchise.
