*Sheryl Lee Ralph is opening up about one of the scariest moments she experienced with her son Etienne.

“When Etienne was in college, he had a car accident and suffered a concussion. It changed his whole brain,” she explained in AARP Magazine cover story for the August/September issue, People reports.  “Then he got mugged, and they shot him three times. He woke up in the hospital with two bullets in his leg and a wound in his forehead where a bullet had grazed him.”

Ralph “collapsed and dropped the phone” when she received the harrowing news about her son’s shooting.

“I didn’t even listen to the rest. But they didn’t kill him, thank God,” the Emmy winner said. “Now he runs his own production company and nonprofit, WalkGoodLA, which is centered around healing, mental health and overall well-being.”

Ralph shares two children, Etienne, 31, and her daughter Ivy-Victoria (also known as Coco), 28, with ex-husband Eric Maurice. Speaking to AARP, she called her kids “my greatest gift.”

“When I met their father, my first husband, I could see my children just as clearly as they are in life right now, and I said, ‘Oh, I know the assignment right here,’” she gushed, People reports. “We got married and had our son, Etienne, and our daughter, Coco. The marriage lasted almost 10 years.”

She added, “If I had a regret in life, it would be that I didn’t have more children. But I have two beautiful children.”

Ralph won an Emmy for best supporting actress in a comedy last year for her work on “Abbott Elementary. After learning recently that she’s been nominated a second time, Ralph told THR, “I feel like I’ve been hit with a bag of emotions, and most of them are so wonderful.”

Ralph was part of the committee negotiating SAG-AFTRA’s new contract ahead of the actor’s strike on July 13.

“We’re fighting for our art,” Ralph told THR for a report published July 12. “We’re fighting for what we love, and what we know people love. We’re not big million-dollar companies. No, we’re people, and we want to enjoy what we do, and we want to make a living at it. That’s what this is about.”
