*The family of Shanquella Robinson intends to sue six of the people who traveled with her to the resort town of San José del Cabo for hindering the investigation into her death.

We reported previously that Robinson was allegedly beaten to death by a “friend” in a Mexican villa in October 2022 while celebrating her birthday with a group of purported besties. The travel companions told Robinson’s mother that her daughter’s cause of death was alcohol poisoning. But the victim’s family was told a different story by Mexican authorities and the FBI.

A disturbing video surfaced allegedly showing Daejhanae Jackson attacking Robinson in a bedroom while she was naked. A man who appears to be filming the assault is heard asking Shanquella, “Quella’ can you at least fight back?” Robinson attempts to get away, but she is slammed to the floor and punched in the head repeatedly.

An autopsy found that the victim died of “severe spinal cord injury.”

Mexican authorities launched a homicide investigation, but in April, the U.S. attorney’s offices in the Western District of North Carolina announced that they “concluded that federal charges cannot be pursued.”

The family’s lawsuit will allege three of the six “lied by omission by failing to disclose that someone had been beating Shanquella prior to her death,” attorney Sue-Ann Robinson told Newsweek.

The lawsuit will also name the North Carolina woman charged with femicide in Mexico for the brutal attack that was captured on cell phone video. No extradition proceedings have been initiated.

Family members of Robinson have petitioned Mexican officials to file charges against all of Robinson’s traveling companions.

In related news, Robinson’s relatives recently fired off a cease-and-desist to the streaming platform Tubi, alleging her likeness was used in an episode of the series “Street Legal” without the estate’s approval.

Season 2 episode 2 of “Street Legal,” titled “Frenemies,” reads: “Within 24 hours, a group of friends traveling to Cabo, Mexico, for a birthday celebration turns into a crime scene, and everyone has a different story. Are they friends or enemies?”

The cease-and-desist letter states the description “covertly exploited” Shanquella, calling it an infringement upon the family’s legal rights to publicity, Revolt reports.

“We must express our profound dismay at the distressing misrepresentation and unauthorized use of Shanquella’s identity and the events surrounding her tragic passing,” reads the letter sent on behalf of Shanquella’s loved ones from attorney Sue-Ann Robinson, per Revolt.

“This unauthorized use has caused significant emotional distress and harm to the Robinson family, as it has dredged up painful memories and portrayed our loved one in a manner that is inaccurate, disrespectful, and damaging to her reputation,” the letter states.
