*Oakland A’s announcer Glen Kuiper issued an apology for using the N-Word live on-air when referring to the Negro League.
Kuiper was suspended indefinitely on Sunday for using the racial slur while discussing his visit to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, according to The Huffington Post. Kuiper was gushing about the trip with analyst Dallas Braden before the A’s played against the Kansas City Royals earlier in the weekend. On the air, Kuiper said, “We had a phenomenal day today. Kuiper has since apologized, with NBC Sports California announcing that he will be off the air until further notice. The network broadcasts the A’s games.
Kuiper apologized during Friday’s broadcast, saying “A little earlier in the show, I said something, didn’t come out quite the way I wanted it to. I just wanted to apologize if it sounded different than I meant it to be said.”
On Saturday he offered another statement, saying he “could not be more sorry and horrified” with what he said.
As The Huffington Post reports, the A’s called Kuiper’s language “unacceptable.”
Meanwhile, the National Negro League Baseball Museum announced a $25 million fundraising campaign for a new building to house its world-famous collection of baseball memorabilia, The Associated Press reports.
