Mail Online Thought Damson Idris and Idris Elba Were Brothers. They Are Not.

*Yes, they are both critically acclaimed Black British actors. Both have played American men deep in the drug game on TV. And yes, they share the name “Idris.” But Damson Idris and Idris Elba are not related, as Mail Online wrote in an article last weekend.

In a story pondering if Damson Idris would be in the running for the next James Bond, the writer claims that he could usurp his “older brother” by snagging the coveted role he was previously tipped for.

Not only is there no blood relation between Damson Idris and Idris Elba, Damson Idris himself has previously commented on the confusion, saying that he and the elder Elba are often mistaken as siblings.

“The first time I met him was at a friend’s party. Idris Elba was like, ‘Hey, come over here.’ I walk over to him and he’s like, ‘I know you, I know you, they always ask if you’re my little brother. You’re doing good, you’re doing good’,” said Damson Idris.

The Mail Online story and its associated tweets have since been deleted, but not before screenshot receipts were shared.

According to thelondoneconomic.com, Damson Idris is now the second-favorite to step in the 007 role. He’s coming off of six season as the lead in FX’s “Snowfall,” about the rise of crack cocaine in Los Angeles. The site points out that Aaron Taylor-Johnson, of “Kick Ass” fame, is currently the top pick for James Bond – and his odds have dropped to 5/2.

Rege-Jean Page, Henry Cavill, and James Norton are also in the mix, according to SkyBet. Some of the long shots mentioned for the iconic role include Richard Ayoade, Colin Firth, and Clive Myrie, all valued at 1000/1.
