Jordan Peele’s Projects Removed from Universal’s 2024 Calendar

*Jordan Peele had two movies slated for 2024 release, but Universal removed both titles from the calendar.

According to Deadline, the move is “strike-related,” and it’s unclear when both features will return.

One of the projects is reportedly an untitled horror thriller set to debut in theaters on September 27, 2024, and the other feature was expected to drop on Christmas Day that same year. Both titles are under Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, but he helmed only one of the projects.

Peele’s last sci-fi movie, “Nope,” grossed $171.2M worldwide, per Deadline. When the Oscar winner appeared at Cinemacon in 2022, Peele discussed the meaning behind the title.

“I love a rapt audience saying, ”Nope!’ or, ‘Get out the house!’ I love to encourage that interaction because that’s what’s giving the audience a unique experience,” Peele said. “Rollercoasters aren’t fun alone. Being scared isn’t fun alone. You need that energy.”

“Nope” was shot in 65mm in IMAX and stars Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer and follows “residents of a lonely gulch of inland California who “bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery,” per the film’s release, via EW.

“This film is definitely a ride. The title speaks to the idea of being in tune with what the audience is thinking and feeling in the theater,” Peele continued. “I know a lot of people who say, when it’s a scary movie, they say, ‘Nope!’ Especially Black audiences, right? We love horror but there’s a skepticism.”

“Nope” is the follow-up to Peele’s 2019 horror feature “Us,” which earned $256M worldwide off a $20M production cost, per Deadline.
