*The Black Houston lawyer at the center of major heat over his past tweets disrespecting Black women has now resigned from the Harris County District Attorney’s office.

As ABC 13 reports, Waymond Wesley made several hateful posts in 2015 and 2016 before he joined the DA’s office in 2021. Several of the posts reportedly depict his disdain for full-figured and dark-skinned Black women. His newly resurfaced social media activity has cost him lucrative partnerships with culinary brands.

Civil rights groups reportedly held a demonstration in front of the DA’s office, calling for Wesley’s firing. But the Harris County District Attorney sttod by the assistant district attorney.

Accordign to Click 2 Houston, the fierce backlash ultimately prompted Wesley to resign. The move comes after his own “racist” and “colorist” tweets against Black women surfaced recently. In one tweet, he reportedly compared Black women to trash.

“I know that this has been a painful time for many. The situation has remained complicated offline, but I want to offer the much-needed apology and context that I have wanted to share since the day my past tweets garnered attention,” Wesley said in his resignation letter posted online Tuesday.

Wesley is known as Chef Way on social media, where he has hundreds of thousands of followers and a taste for colorism. Based on his past tweets, he has major issues with Black women who are darker than a paper bag.

After his hateful posts about Black women went viral, Wesley issued the following lame statement: “To those I’ve hurt with my past tweets that have resurfaced, I am deeply sorry. That was a moment in my life where I was sick in more ways than one. Cooking saved me. You have watched a flawed man heal. I will continue to heal and learn. Thanks for being along for the journey.”

Several social media users said the apology isn’t enough, with one person tweeting “You actually need to be disbarred if this is how you feel about Black women because you can’t be expected to defend them fairly…”

Another user wrote, “Racism leaves a bad taste in your mouth. No amount of seasoning can fix that flavor. Hope there is actually change and not just saving face.”

Retired U.S. District Judge Vanessa Gilmore noted that “It’s not that he doesn’t deserve forgiveness. It’s that he does not deserve to be in a place that, one, shows that he may not be able to be fair in terms of his own decision-making process, and two, where it disparages and undermines people’s confidence in the justice system.”
