*The Rev. Al Sharpton is calling on the McDonald’s Corporation to address the multiple claims of alleged racial discrimination.
Sharpton says he sent a letter to Chief Executive Officer Chris Kempczinski demanding that he address these long-standing problems, according to a press release on NAN’s website.
In his role as president and founder of the National Action Network, Sharpton said he would mobilize the organization to “demand action” against McDonald’s if these controversial issues were not addressed.
“We find it appalling and inexcusable that McDonald’s Corporation has not satisfied its differences with the Black community,” said Sharpton.

“There are lawsuits brought by Black franchises. Another brought by a Black former executive over racial discrimination from the highest levels. And let’s not forget the $10 billion lawsuit brought by Byron Allen over the fact that Black-owned media did not get its fair share of McDonald’s supersized advertising budgets,” he continued.
“We are also outraged at the removal of John Rogers, a well-respected business leader for the Black community, from the Board of Directors. We unequivocally demand they immediately acknowledge and address these issues, or we will begin a national campaign around McDonalds.”
The McDonalds Corporation announced in March the retirement of Rogers and Robert “Bob” A. Eckert from the fast-food giant’s Board of Directors effective.
Sharpton said, “You cannot sell Black folks Big Macs and give us little justice.”
We reported previously that a federal judge ruled late last year that a $10 billion racial discrimination lawsuit filed by media mogul Byron Allen against McDonald’s can proceed. This was after the judge rejected a motion to dismiss the suit.
Allen is the founder and chairman/CEO of Allen Media Group, which sued the fast-food giant in 2022. In his complaint, Allen alleges that McDonald’s did not allocate a fair amount of the money to the Black-owned media outlets as it disbursed massive advertisement budgets.
In his ruling, U.S. District Judge Fernando Olguin decided that the case has merit. Allen is reportedly seeking $10 billion in damages.
