*Powerhouse attorney Larry A. Ginsberg from the firm Harris Ginsberg LLP has asked the court to permit him to drop his client, citing an “irremediable breakdown” in their relationship. The client in question happens to be Angelique Smith, mother to the late rapper Nipsey Hussle.
The attorney further added that the breakdown has affected his ability to represent Smith and made it “unreasonably difficult to communicate effectively with Ms. Smith.”
The attorney had previously talked to Sam, brother to Nipsey, over the matter. But he has been unable to serve Smith with notice of his withdrawal because he has no current mailing address for Smith.
Ginsberg was hired by Smith in 2019 following her son’s untimely death. He adds that Smith had hired separate representation to handle the brewing guardianship battle with the late rapper’s ex Tanisha Foster.

Ginsberg is officially off the case after the judge granted his request. Meanwhile, the late Nipsey Hussle’s family is gearing up for a scathing court battle with his ex-girlfriend (Tanisha Foster) over custody of Emani, a 13-year-old daughter he had with her. Emani is the rapper’s oldest child.
The family filed a petition to establish guardianship for Emani soon after the rapper’s demise. In the court papers, they argued that Emani should live with them because Tanisha had no stable housing. Tanisha agreed to the guardianship at the time, but she changed her mind earlier this year, asking the court to terminate the agreement and grant her custody of Emani.
She alleged her ex-boyfriend’s family was using their “financial position and influence to disregard their priorities by controlling the desires of Emani and Tanisha by withholding financial assistance and reducing visitation.”
She further stated, “I have continued to be an active part of Emani’s life. She spends the night with me often, I take her to school, and I continue to do the things a parent would do with their child. I am very unhappy that the guardians will not take my calls. They have blocked me on their cell phones. I have to go through a third party or Emani to communicate with the guardians.”
She went on, “There are no circumstances or events in my life that would disqualify me from regaining my exclusive role as Emani’s parent. There is no longer any need for guardianship. Emani routinely asks me when are she and I going to be able to live together. She longs to be with me as her mother. I am begging the court to terminate the existing guardianship.”
The family of Nipsey Hussle objected to her latest request. They are scheduled to appear in court in January.
