*Fans of Serena Williams came to her defense recently on Twitter when a user said her “legacy would of been even more solidified if she married a Black American man.”
Williams is married to Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, who is white, and the couple shares a young daughter. When Williams announced her retirement from tennis to focus on her family, Ohanian took to Twitter to write, “I’m so happy she wrote that piece. It came out so well and I have a feeling she’s going to be hearing about it for years to come from folks.”
Ohanian went on to speak about this wife’s global impact. “I’ve seen over the last 7 years how much y’all love my wife—what she means to so many, worldwide. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen,” he tweeted. “Plenty of folks have told me ‘how Reddit changed their life,’ but the scale & impact of ‘how Serena changed my life’ stories absolutely dwarfs it.”
He continued, “And that’s just the stuff I hear when people come up to me to say hi. You simply cannot overstate the size and influence she’s had on so many people. And for what it’s worth, as far as I can tell, she has no idea. She doesn’t think about it.”

Williams and the tech giant tied the knot in 2017 and many fans remain critical of her husband’s race.
“Only black women are expected to tether their legacies to their partners, but y’all wouldn’t dare send this smoke up for Kobe,” one user responded to the Twitter user who slammed Serena’s legacy due to her hubby’s race, MadameNoire reports.
“It doesn’t matter who she is married to or whether or not she is married. She, in and of herself, is the GOAT and has created an extraordinary legacy for herself,” another person commented.
