*When D.L. Hughley’s son Kyle was a child, doctors diagnosed him with Asperger’s syndrome. The comedian often discusses how this autism spectrum disorder impact’s his son’s education and day-to-day life.

“Everything has to be the same. He goes to work at the same time. He eats the same thing, said Hughley during a 2015 appearance on “Oprah: Where Are They Now.”

So, the other day, two weeks ago, three weeks ago, I had to get gas and he says, ‘Daddy, I’ll do it’. And I’m a nervous wreck. He comes back in and he gives me the receipt and the keys and I could not stop crying because he did something he was afraid to do. And I was, I think anybody who had, it’s just, he just, I just didn’t believe he could do it,” Hughley shared during the Oprah segment.

“He did it. And I held him and I said, you’re going to be alright. And I think sometimes I don’t know for sure but he’s going to be fine. He’ll be fine,” he added.

Hughley recently got emotional while addressing how dangerous it is to raise a Black son with a disability.

The proud father noted that if he fails to properly protect his 34-year-old son Kyle, who “dances to his own beat,” he could die.

In a TikTok video posted by @blackloveinc, Hughley said one of his son’s personality traits is defiance and that’s something that “gets young Black men killed.”

“I knew it right away that I would have to prepare him for a world that wasn’t like the world [his mom] wanted for him,” Hughley said before admitting to being “scared to death” of not being able to keep Kyle safe.

“I didn’t know how to make him ready for this world so he could see what’s coming,” Hughley tearfully explains in the video.
