57 Members of Police Unit Involved in Injuring Elderly Protestor Resign in Protest

*The Investigative Post is reporting that 57 members of a special squad on the Buffalo Police department – the Emergency Response Team – have resigned from their posts.

The information is according to the Buffalo Police Benevolent Association.

The announcement comes one day after two members were suspended without pay when a video surfaced, showing them pushing Martin Gugino, over a 75-year-old protestor, causing injury.

“Fifty-seven resigned in disgust because of the treatment of two of their members, who were simply executing orders,” said John Evans, PBA president.

The special response unit was formed in 2016 and is deployed to manage mass protests or riots.

As we reported, earlier today, in his daily briefing with the media, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called for criminal charges to be made against the officers. He says the footage of the cops pushing the man to the ground without stopping to offer aid, sickened him.

“I was sick to my stomach… it was the same feeling I had for 90 of the past nights when I got the death tolls for coronavirus. I was physically sick to my stomach,” he said.

The governor is leaning on the city to fire and charge the two cops responsible for the attack and urged authorities to move with haste.
