THE REAL Welcomes Ne-Yo, Tina Lifford, and Guest Co-Host Tisha Campbell! – WATCH

*On Tuesday, Nov. 26, The Real welcomes back guest co-host Tisha Campbell! The hosts discuss rapper T.I.’s latest conversation regarding the controversial comments he made earlier this month about accompanying his daughter to the gynecologist each year to monitor her virginity.

Co-host Loni Love points out the way hip-hop music has historically treated women, while co-host Jeannie Mai clarifies some of her earlier remarks concerning whether she supports T.I.

Is there enough kindness in today’s world? Co-host Tamera Mowry-Housley says that kindness is a strength and shares what one person once taught her about that power.

Then Grammy Award-winning recording artist Ne-Yo stops by to talk about his new Christmas album, Another Kind Of Christmas, and Holberton School, a tuition free engineering school.

And actress and author Tina Lifford visits to chat about her new book, The Little Book Of Big Lies and the fifth season of Queen Sugar.

The Hosts Weigh In On T.I.’s Daughter And Hip-Hop Culture Controlling Women

Loni Love: Old school hip-hop has been degrading and trying to control women for years.

[The Real audience applauds]

Loni: That’s the real about it. We been called “bitches” and “hos,” we been called “no good,” we been made to feel ashamed to be sexual. And so this was a trigger to a lot of women, when he did this.

[The Real audience applauds]

Loni: Now, I will say this about hip hop – it is changing. We have artists like J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, who talk about the vulnerability of love and the respect of women.

Jeannie Mai: And the equality.

Loni: And equality. And being sexual. But first of all, with most exams for young women don’t start at the age – under the age of 18. You only need to go to a… gynecologist…

Jeannie: Gynecologist.

Loni: …if there’s a problem, ok? So that’s the first thing.

[The Real audience applauds]

Tamera Mowry-Housley: Before 18.

Loni: Before 18.

Tisha Campbell: I remember going at 15…

Loni: Unless you’re having sex – unless you’re having sex.

Tisha: Right, right, right.

Loni: Which – she was not having sex, there was no need to make her go through – and you not even supposed to have – your first visit is so you can be with the doctor and things like that. And then if you’re having sex, then you do that. But you don’t even have a pap exam at that age because there’s no need to. So.

Tamera: How old is Deyjah? How old is she?

Jeannie: She’s 18 now.

Loni: She’s 18 now.

Jeannie: When we had first talked about this, what I had meant to say is that T.I. has no right to inflict any control over his daughter’s body.

[The Real audience applauds]

Jeannie: Period! Her body, her choice. And, I understand his intention as a father; I don’t support his actions. And what I see there is a father who’s trying to find the right way in this crazy world, especially coming from a hip-hop culture, of What do I do to “control?” and that’s the problem. You can’t control your daughter. You can only educate and protect, but you can’t control her body. That’s the problem.

[The Real audience applauds]

Tisha: I see what you mean!

Tamera: I agree with that. I think the best way that you can bring up your daughter is be the best example that you possibly can be.

[The Real audience applauds]

Tamera: Right? Because kids – you can say whatever you want to say. But they’re looking at you.
