*Mariah Carey opens up about and her loves and high-profile relationships in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan magazine.
“I haven’t had that many, but there has been a variety pack,” Carey, 49, says of her relationships and the men she has dated. In her August 2019 Cosmo cover story, Carey reveals that she “only been with five people in my life, so I’m kind of a prude, honestly, compared to most others in the field,” she said.
The New York native also gets candid about her marriage to Sony Music boss Tommy Mottola, who was 20 years her senior when they married in the 90’s.
“You might want to picture a child bride,” Carey explained of their 1993 wedding. “There was a conscious effort to keep me as this all-American, whatever that means, girl. It was very controlled. There was no freedom for me as a human being. It was almost like being a prisoner.”

After she split with Mottola in 1997, Carey went on to date celebrities including Derek Jeter and Luis Miguel, before marrying for the second time to her now ex-husband Nick Cannon, whom she wed in April 2008. They share 8-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe.
“We got our egos and this selfish behavior [but] when you put your children first, you understand that it’s all unconditional love. All that other stuff just falls apart,” the former America’s Got Talent host explained to Us Weekly about co-parenting with Canon. “I always want what’s best for my children.”
Carey moved on from Nick with Australian billionaire James Packer. They became engaged in January 2016 but called it quits 8 months later.
The singer’s current boyfriend is dancer Bryan Tanaka, who is 13 years her junior. They broke up briefly in April 2017 but reunited and have been going strong since.
