*Were you a fan of “High School Musical” when Zac Efron had boyish silky hair and a scrawny frame?
Well, you’re in luck because Disney’s new streaming platform Disney+ is bringing it back or more like paying homage to the 2006 classic with “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.”
EURweb got to sit down with the main cast to discuss how it felt for the newbies to be apart of recreating the most commercially successful DCOM [Disney Channel Original Movie] ever produced.
“It’s really it’s own thing and we’ve created our own universe, that exists independently from High School but still pays its respect,” Bassett says in excitement.
While his co-star Olivia Rodrigo adds:
“The way that we’re going about it is so respectful of the original movies while still putting our own, new fresh twist on it. So it’s new characters, new plots and new music actually.”
The new series is a mockumentary of the original movie with the same name. It also takes place in the original high school, East High, giving fans some serious nostalgia.

“I think the trailer does an excellent job of setting up what the show is, that it takes place in our world, in the real world, it’s like kids you know, like kids in high school right now putting on ‘High School Musical.’ I think it’s so fun because you get to poke fun of things in the show while paying homage and honoring things in the show,” described Mark St Cry who plays Mr. Mazzara described.
Dara Renee whose character Courtney is bold and outspoken goes on to say “It was so much fun to play a fan because I’m a die-hard fan, I’m obsessed with High School Musical. So my character was so much fun and I was like oh this is easy this is already me.”
The first episode will air on Disney Channel, ABC and Freeform on November 8 just four days before its launch on the streaming service Disney+.
For all you binge watchers you will have to wait with anticipation, as each episode will drop once a week. Be ready to tune in on November 12 to reminisce and enjoy.
