Weekend Watch: ‘How to Train Your Dragon 3’ Fans the Flames

*“How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” keeps the fires burning. The final installment in the series fans the flames with fights and first love.

The dragons’ happy paradise of Berk is disrupted when dragon hunter Grimmel  (F. Murray Abraham)  seeks to destroy it.

Chief and ruler of Berk Hiccup  (Jay Baruchel),  alongside Astrid (America Ferrera), must move all the fire spewing creatures to a safe place off the map—a hidden world.

Battling pirates and securing a safe place for the endangered dragons is just part of the story. A romance brews between Hiccup’s pet dragon Toothless and the white dragon Light Fury. They take up quite a bit of screen time—wooing that will delight the young—but cheesy for the most part.

Directed by Dean DeBloi, the film is predictable and safe. It does not step outside of the box and add any color. There’s no remorse here that this is the last of its kind.

Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler, Caig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, and Kit Harrington also add their voices to the “The Hidden World.”
