*In an exclusive interview with EURweb.com, Simone Missick revealed what viewers can expect in the second season of “Luke Cage,” airing on Netflix starting tomorrow, June 22. She also explained how “Luke Cage” influenced “Black Panther” and black images on the big and small screens.
Simone, is the second season of “Luke Cage” the charm?
Yes. Everyone’s firing on all cylinders and it’s great to see. Our Showrunner Cheo Hadari, the writers, cast, everyone have done a fantastic job. They have stepped up and exceeded all the hard work that they did last season. The music is on point. The guest stars and villains are incredible.
And last but not least, is Mike. Mike comes back with a vengeance this season, too. I think his confidence and his level of comfort in being a leader in Harlem is something that the fans are going to enjoy watching play out over these 13 episodes.
What about your character, Misty?
You will see her lose her arm at the end of ‘The Defenders’ to getting a bionic arm. It’s such a gift. The fans have been waiting over 40 years for this. That was when the first black female superhero was created. The first one put to paper.
Speaking of superheroes, how much influence did “Luke Cage” have in the success of “Black Panther”?
It was the success of Netflix’s “Luke Cage” season one breaking the Internet that encouraged Marvel to release ‘Black Panther’ when they did; it’s been documented. So ‘Luke Cage’ really laid the groundwork for all of the black superheroes that we seen that I think are so important. People have been hungry for these kinds of characters for a very long time.

Why were they so hungry?
I think that people want to see themselves. Representation matters. This is a very brown planet, and the days of only seeing people be superhuman in white skin are over. There’s room for everyone, and the success of these shows and these movies are a testament to that. And if it doesn’t take anything away from the characters that have existed before this, but just shows that we can all be successful, that we can all entertain and people want to see more of that.
