Angela Bassett Talks Playing the Villain in ‘Bumblebee’ (EUR Exclusive/Watch!)

*EURweb associate LMarie sat down with Angela Bassett to talk about her entering new territory as a villain, in the new film “Bumblebee.”

Bassett is known for being a strong fierce black woman in her previous roles, but we’ve never seen her as the bad guy.

In the film, “Bumblebee,” which hits theaters December 21, Bassett lends that distinctive voice of hers to the character named Shatter. The film takes place in the late 80s with Bumblebee landing on Earth to start a new home for the Autobots, but Shatter, a Decepticon, plans to find Bumblebee and take over Earth.

When asked what made her take the role of a villain, she says …

“’Cause you haven’t seen it so you think you know me, I’m more than meets the eye. I’m evil too, I’m bad too.”

If you’re wondering how she prepared for this new role: “You just gotta show up and know your director,” was her answer.

She added: “During the fight scenes I do have to move around a little bit, you know kicking and grabbing.”

If you have hopes of seeing Auntie Angela as a bad guy in real life, you may just get your wish as she also hopes to play a human villain one day.

Switching gears into her personal life LMarie asked Angela about her marriage to actor Courtney B. Vance. Both Angela and Courtney have movies out at the same time, so how do they balance work and their relationship? She says they’ve been blessed to not have projects at the same time, “When one would end another one would pick up.” She believes that’s the secret to their lasting marriage.

As mentioned earlier, “Bumblebee” takes place in the late 80s, and LMarie asked what things she would keep from the 80s and what she would leave there? You can find out Bassett’s response is by checking out the interview at the top of the page (the trailer is right below). Also, don’t forget to check out “Bumblebee” in theaters December 21.
