*What do Cardi B, Malik Yoba, and Paula Abdul have in common? Besides earning recognition in their respective entertainment careers, this trio is among the celebrity clientele that trusts their million-dollar smiles to New York-based dentist Catrise L. Austin, D.D.S. If Dr. Austin looks familiar, it may be because you have seen her speaking at an Ivy League University, serving as an ambassador for one of your favorite brands, or lending her expert insight national media outlets. Accolades aside, for the past two decades this University of Maryland-trained dentist prides herself on helping celebrities and common public enjoy great oral health and take a bite out of life.
“I take my job as a cosmetic dentist very seriously and quite personally because dentistry actually changed my life as a teen. When I was a young child I noticed that my teeth were different,” Dr. Austin recalls. “They were too long, they flared out, and I had multiple spaces between my teeth. By the time I reached high school, I really started to feel a bit self-conscious about my smile. So, at the age of 15, my mom invested in braces to improve my smile. When the braces were removed 1 year later, my life completely changed!”
Dr. Austin believes that having a beautiful and confident smile can have a positive impact on every aspect of people’s lives including improving their career success, social life, and even finding love. An American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry study agrees with her. The research found that a beautiful smile will not only make you more attractive, it also makes you appear more intelligent, interesting, successful, and wealthy to others as well. A few years ago, Dr. Catrise Austin got a chance to test this theory when she was tapped by the popular VH1 reality TV show Love and Hip Hop New York to transform the smile of its breakout star rapper Cardi B.
“Cardi B was constantly ridiculed on social media about her less than perfect smile. In just two visits, we transformed Cardi B’s smile with porcelain veneers and literally changed her life,” says Dr. Austin, author of GetSmiled and The Ultimate Guide to Charcoal Teeth Whitening. “When the smile transformation debuted on the season premiere episode of the seventh season of Love and Hip Hop New York, it sparked nationwide smile makeover frenzy!”
A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Dr. Austin is living her dreams by helping consumers from all over the world feel “The Power of a Smile.”
