*Jay Z and his Roc Nation Sports are saying goodbye to sports giant CAA amid the end of their two-year partnership.
The New York Post reports that although the reasons behind the split are unclear, sources suggest that Roc Nation Sports had become too competitive with CAA as concerns arose from lots of money and sports contracts being lost. Despite having no experience as a sports agent, Jay Z has been able to bring in major sports figures to Roc Nation Sports via the signing of Kevin Durant, CC Sabathia and Robinson Cano to lucrative contracts.
In addition, rumors of famed NFL sports agent Tom Condon jumping ship at CAA to align with Roc Nation Sports were brought to light late last year. The move hasn’t taken place for Condon, who was named the No. 3 most powerful sports agent in the world by Forbes in 2014 and has $1.29 billion in contracts under management.
During Roc Nation Sports’ partnership with CAA, the Post noted that the sports agency was responsible for obtaining marketing and sponsorship deals, while TPG-owned CAA handled the athletes’ player contracts.
