*Whoopi Goldberg took an unexpected position on “The View” during a debate over whether the New York Knicks should visit President Donald Trump at the White House after their NBA championship.
Goldberg, a longtime critic of Trump, said she wants the team to attend because of what their presence could represent.
“I want them to go. I want all those black men to stand in our house,” Goldberg said, New York Post reports.
She argued that the visit should not be viewed only through the lens of politics. Instead, Goldberg framed it as a statement about visibility, history, and resilience. “When you try to destroy one part of history, you’re destroying all of our histories,” Goldberg said.

The discussion came after Knicks owner James Dolan said the franchise accepted an invitation from Trump. Goldberg said the team’s title run could send a message to young fans.
“They, as champions — not only as amazing basketball players, but as people who were down and came back up — this is what this looks like,” she said.
She added that the visit could show children “that nobody — nobody — can keep you down if you are rising up.”
Other panelists expressed more hesitation. Sara Haines said the invitation put the team in “a really precarious position.” Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed, saying it placed players in “such an uncomfortable position.”
Joy Behar said she felt divided over the issue, arguing that people can respect the White House without respecting the person who occupies it. Sunny Hostin said, “I remain very conflicted over it.”
The exchange showed how championship visits to the White House can become politically charged, especially when players must weigh tradition, personal beliefs, and public expectations.
