*Trey Songz has initiated legal action against the Kansas City Police Department related to an encounter that took place during an NFL playoff game in early 2021.
According to the Daily Mail, the lawsuit stems from events at the AFC Championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills, held at Arrowhead Stadium in January of that year. According to court filings, Songz, whose legal name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, was attending the game as a spectator when nearby fans began heckling him. The complaint alleges that the situation escalated beyond verbal taunts and became threatening behavior, prompting stadium staff and police to respond.
Rather than addressing the behavior of other attendees, the lawsuit claims authorities focused on Neverson. He alleges that law enforcement officers and contracted security personnel failed to protect him and instead used unnecessary physical force. The filing asserts that he was restrained, detained, and taken into custody without justification.

Following the incident, Neverson was booked on charges including trespassing, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer. Those charges were later dismissed, a point emphasized in the lawsuit as evidence that his arrest was unlawful. The suit further claims that the encounter resulted in lasting physical harm and reputational damage.
The legal complaint names both the Kansas City Police Department and event security provider Whelan Event Services, accusing them of negligence and improper conduct. While the filing outlines alleged injuries and professional setbacks, it does not state a specific monetary amount being sought in damages. The Kansas City Police Department has declined to comment publicly on the matter.
