*Stevie Wonder has pulled the plug on his planned House Full of Toys benefit concert series, originally scheduled to begin Thursday at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood. The Grammy winner was set to perform four consecutive nights from December 18 through 21.
As KTLA reports, Wonder made the announcement through his Los Angeles radio station, KJLH, where he detailed his reasoning for the cancellation. “A week and a half ago, I came up with the idea of doing four nights at the Fonda Theatre to raise money for House Full of Toys. Big idea. Little time. So, because of that little time, I’ve decided to cancel all four shows. Yet still, I will this year put my money where my heart is by giving a substantial donation for the children for House Full of Toys,” he stated.
The music icon promised to revive the event in the coming year with proper preparation time. “Next year, we will again do House Full of Toys with the big idea and enough time to put it together,” he explained. Those who already bought tickets will be issued full refunds.
The House Full of Toys initiative serves children, individuals living with disabilities, and families facing financial hardship. Attendees at the annual event traditionally bring unwrapped toys or gifts to support those in need.
Wonder’s We Are You Foundation, which operates as a nonprofit IRC501(c)(3) organization, oversees the charitable program, with all contributions being fully tax-deductible as no goods or services are exchanged for donations.
