*We spoke to the ladies of the new R&B group PsiRyn, whose debut single “Sober” was released on July 26 and is now available on all digital streaming platforms.
Currently serving as openers for The Queens of R&B Tour, headlined by Xscape and SWV, this dynamic trio—comprising Jada Denise, Anaya Chayenne, and Victoria McQueen—is making a significant mark in the music scene just under two years after their formation. Originally solo artists, they caught Kandi Burruss‘ attention with a viral harmony video on Instagram, leading to her mentorship and support.
In our conversation, the group shared insights into their journey, Kandi’s valuable influence, their musical aspirations, and their strategies to navigate the challenges often faced by female R&B groups.
“So sirens are mythical creatures, as we all know. They are these beautiful mermaids who have wonderful, entrancing, and attractive voices that they use to lure men to the sea and capture them,” the group explained. “So we felt like that related to us because we find ourselves, every time we sing… there’s always people coming out of nowhere. We can start singing, it’ll be a whole crowd. We feel like we’re three beautiful women who have three beautiful, big voices. We’re always capturing people.”
PsiRyn’s music blends R&B and Pop and their viral acapella covers include their take on Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love.” Watch the clip below.
Per the news release, “Victoria brings a jazzy and sultry voice, while Jada shines with powerful high notes, and Anaya showcases whistle tones and butterfly sounds. Their music blends R&B and Pop and is sure to appeal to a wide range of audiences with this their latest single “Sober.” Over the summer, the track reached 15 on the Billboard Adult R&B airplay chart!
The trio said they aim to “inspire young black girls to be themselves and to feel comfortable in their skin and to feel comfortable shining.”
“I think sometimes society can tell young black girls to, you know, dim your light and it doesn’t, I feel like society doesn’t dim your light and be somebody else. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I feel like society doesn’t tell young black girls to be themselves and be who they are. So that’s definitely what we want to do,” the group told us.
