*Kevin Durant revealed in a new interview with Bobbi Althoff on her “Not This Again” podcast that he once struggled with severe insecurities about his appearance that led to depression.
“I’ve been stressed, depressed before. Like once,” Durant admitted, Rolling Out reports. “I was insecure about how I looked. It was crazy.” The Houston Rockets forward explained that his extreme height and thin build during adolescence became a source of deep insecurity.
Durant shared that reaching over 6 feet tall by age 12, combined with his lanky physique, caused uncomfortable feelings that persisted into adulthood. “I feel insecure about how I look every day. So, I just didn’t—I don’t know. It just hit me all at one time,” he explained.
The 37-year-old athlete eventually overcame these struggles by shifting his perspective on self-image. “I just snapped out of it because this is stupid to even care,” he said. “‘Nothing is wrong with how you look.’ That’s how I got out of it.”
Durant also addressed his views on marriage, noting skepticism about committing to one person for the rest of his life. He was previously engaged to former WNBA player Monica Wright in 2013, though they separated a year later.
“I’m not really concerned about that anyway,” he told Althoff. “If it’s somebody I f–k with and we end up walking away from each other, hopefully it ain’t as bad. I want to take care of you anyway and make sure you straight, but not be taken advantage of.”
When asked about lifelong monogamy, Durant was direct about his stance. “That’s not ever gonna happen,” he said. “I never seen that.”
He added, “It’s just like, do I want to be with somebody every day? Hang with the same person every day … without the option to do my own thing?”
