*Jay-Z is intensifying his defense against a lawsuit from a woman who accuses him and Sean Combs of sexually assaulting her in 2000 when she was a minor.
After suing her lawyer for extortion, and seeking legal orders to reveal her identity and dismiss her complaint, Jay’s lawyer has now argued the case doesn’t qualify for revival under New York City’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act (GMVA), Rolling Stone reports. His attorney, Alex Spiro, noted the GMVA wasn’t enacted until December 2000, three months after the alleged incident.
“[The GMVA] cannot apply retroactively to create a cause of action unavailable to plaintiff at the time in question,” Spiro wrote in his letter to the court, obtained by Rolling Stone. “A contrary conclusion would violate both state and federal due process protections.”
Diddy is facing numerous abuse accusations from multiple women (and men), with court documents alleging that he roughed up many victims at his drug-fueled “freak off” parties in the early 2000s. The father of seven could be sentenced to life in prison if he is convicted on federal charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transporting individuals for prostitution.
Since his arrest in September, Puffy has been held behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn and denied bail multiple times due to being considered a flight risk and concerns of witness tampering. According to reports, he was placed on suicide watch during his first week in custody but was removed from it shortly thereafter. P. Diddy, who has denied the allegations against him, will return to court on March 17, 2025.

Judge Arun Subramanian recently permitted Combs to use a jail-provided laptop exclusively for reviewing discovery materials in preparation for his sex crimes trial that begins in May 2025, PEOPLE reports.
Meanwhile, as we reported earlier, the new legal filing against JAY-Z links the hip-hop star to Combs. Jay is taking legal action against attorney Tony Buzbee for allegedly pressuring potential clients to make false claims in lawsuits. Buzbee’s latest case alleges that the hip-hop stars sexually assaulted a teenage girl at an afterparty in New York City following the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000. The lawsuit was originally filed in October, and initially included Combs as a defendant and referred to JAY-Z as “Celebrity A.” However, on December 8, the case was refiled to identify him as a defendant.
“Mr. Combs has full confidence in the facts and the integrity of the judicial process. In court, the truth will prevail: that Mr. Combs never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone — man or woman, adult or minor,” Combs’ lawyers said in a statement.
