*We bet when you woke up today you didn’t expect this news. Ya ready? In a shocking twist, beloved “CBS Mornings” co-anchor Gayle King found herself gracing the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition.
Yes, you read that correctly. On the brink of her 70th year on the planet, King was swept off her feet with an astonishing disclosure during a live broadcast on Tuesday.
Mid-interview with SI Swimsuit icons Hunter McGrady and Kate Upton, the conversation veered into unexpected territory when King’s colleague, Nate Burleson, teased, “Kate and Hunter aren’t the only cover luminaries present,” gesturing towards Oprah’s cherished confidante.
“There she is!” exclaimed Upton, unveiling King’s cover edition, sparking applause and joyful exclamations from King herself, who was astounded: “I’m the cover star? I thought my feature was inside!”
McGrady joined the excitement, proclaiming, “Yes girl, you absolutely nailed it!” She further celebrated King’s feature, declaring, “Beauty knows no age or size,” and hailed King’s appearance as “a beacon of inspiration for women everywhere.”
King took a moment to commend Yu Tsai, the gifted photographer behind all the SI Swimsuit covers, including her own landmark and the special legends issue.
King disclosed her candid chat with Sports Illustrated about avoiding digital enhancements, humorously noting her indulgence in a cheeseburger the day before her photoshoot.
“They asked about retouching, and I said, ‘Keep it minimal.’ Maybe smooth out a few thigh dimples, but that’s it,” she shared with the group.

This year, King joins a stellar roster of 2024 SI Swimsuit cover models, including model and culinary entrepreneur Chrissy Teigen and 23 other iconic figures, marking the franchise’s 60th anniversary with a special legends edition.
The lineup this year also stars Chanel Iman, Christen Harper, host Kamie Crawford, Katie Austin, and LSU gymnastics phenom Olivia “Livvy” Dunne. Fresh faces like Brittany Mahomes, Jena Sims, and Lori Harvey, and collegiate athletes Alexa Massari, Jasmine Williams, and Jillian Hayes also grace the roster.
On the SI Swimsuit portal, editor-in-chief MJ Day remarked on King’s participation, asserting she “powerfully reiterates that women are boundless and masters of their fates.”
Reflecting on the experience, King shared with People magazine: “It was never a dream, but it became a standout moment among my myriad achievements. I had never imagined such a possibility.”
Ok, now that we know what Gayle’s workin’ with, one can’t help but ponder: Is the world ready for an Oprah-themed edition?
