*From scene-stealing sass to strategic MVP, “Stranger Things’ fans have watched Erica Sinclair grow up right alongside the series — and according to Priah Ferguson, Season 5 cements Erica’s place as far more than comic relief.
Speaking with EUR, Ferguson reflected on Erica’s evolution in the final season, describing a version of the character that taps into a darker, sharper edge.
“It was exciting to see how she evolved,” Ferguson said. “She definitely tapped into her manipulative side this season to help save the day. She kind of tapped into her villain side — her villain arc — and that was really fun to play.”
While Erica has always been fearless with her opinions, Ferguson explained that Season 5 pushes her into a new role: the voice of reason amid chaos. With Hawkins under military quarantine and Vecna still at large, confusion reigns — and Erica cuts through it.

“When things got darker, there was so much confusion going on, and Erica was definitely the voice of reason,” she explained. “She comes in at the perfect time, settles everything, and says, ‘This is what I know. This is what we do. Let’s get to it.”
That grounded presence extends to Erica’s relationship with her brother Lucas, who carries heavy emotional weight this season. Ferguson emphasized that despite Erica’s sarcastic exterior, loyalty has always been her defining trait.
“She’s very dependable,” Ferguson said. “Even though she can come off as annoyed or sassy, whenever her brother or his friends needed her, she was there. She came through with her full potential.”
Ferguson pointed back to Season 4 as a reminder of Erica’s instincts, recalling her urgency to get help for Lucas during critical moments. “That really shows their sibling relationship and connection,” she added.

Season 5 also gives Erica more physical action, something Ferguson welcomed. From stunt coordination to running sequences, she said the experience felt natural and supported by a strong safety team.
“There was a stunt coordinator there to show me how to do it safely,” she shared. “It wasn’t difficult. Stunts are always fun to do.”
Beyond the screen, Ferguson acknowledged the emotional weight of closing a chapter after growing up with the cast. While careful not to spoil anything, she admitted there was a moment that made the ending feel real.
“Seeing how much we’ve all grown — even outside of character — really lets me know we grew up together,” she said.
At its core, Ferguson believes Stranger Things has always been about family — and Season 5 brings that message full circle.
“Erica realizes how important family and friendship are,” she said. “That’s what the show has always been about, and this season centers everything back around that.”
As for the beloved ’80s nostalgia, Ferguson smiled when recalling Erica’s era-specific details — from Barbie dolls in earlier seasons to a puppy-print sweater inspired by classic ’80s brands.
In one sentence, Ferguson summed up Erica’s Season 5 arc simply and powerfully: confidence and dependability.
“She’s someone people can depend on,” she said. “And that really shows this season.”
“Stranger Things” season 5 Volume 2 begins streaming on Christmas Day.
