*When Dr. Contessa Metcalfe shows up, she shows up with honesty, intention, and a work ethic that would exhaust most mortals.
The “Married to Medicine” star sat down with EUR to talk through her biggest season yet — one that includes expanding her medical enterprise, rebuilding friendships, and throwing one of the most over-the-top themed birthday parties the show has seen.
Fresh off purchasing a medical building in 2023 — financed not by big loans, but by her and Dr. Scott’s own cash flow — Contessa says the expansion wasn’t random timing; it was the moment she finally chose herself.
“I’ve been quietly doing it for years,” she shared. “I had to take away from some of the other things I wanted in life to invest in myself. Legacy building matters.”
For Contessa, this wasn’t just a business transaction. It was a declaration. After working 60–80 hours a week for other people, she wanted to hang her own shingle and create something built to last for generations. “It took me 49 years to believe in myself enough to say, ‘Why not you?’”

This season also finds Contessa extending grace in unexpected places — namely, toward Dr. Heavenly. Their history is a rollercoaster, but Contessa admits she consciously chose to lean into empathy rather than scorekeeping.
“Life be life-in,” she said. “This was a tough year for her. I don’t kick people when they’re down. Sometimes you have to put aside petty differences when someone needs support.”
And in a group known for long-term grudges and high-stakes tension, Contessa says her approach has evolved. She’s less interested in holding on to old issues and more focused on who the women are today.
“I don’t want to be almost 50 still mad about something from when I was 40,” she joked. “You miss out on blessings that way.”
Her friendship reset with Toya is the perfect example. After years of being “stuck,” time and organic reconnection — plus a few youth sporting events — helped the two rediscover the value they bring one another.
“We realized it was stupid to be mad,” she laughed. “Our lives overlap too much not to roll together.”
Of course, fans will also see Contessa in full celebration mode with a 70s-inspired Players Ball birthday party that she reimagined as a tribute to Black excellence, community leadership, and a whole lot of campy fun.
“We’re major players in our communities now. I wanted to reclaim that term,” she said. “I didn’t want a little gathering. I wanted a ball, and I went all in.”
From navigating marriage and burnout to launching wellness initiatives for women, Contessa remains transparent about her struggles — and the fact that she’s still learning to prioritize herself. “Perfection is a lie,” she said. “Transparency is freedom.”
Season 12 of “Married to Medicine” premieres Sunday, Nov. 30, on Bravo.
