*A hotel in Birmingham, England, has unveiled a massive 25-foot-tall Christmas tree constructed entirely from 100,000 balloons to celebrate the holidays and raise funds for charity.
According to the New York Post, the Balloon Christmas Tree stands outside Moor Hall Hotel and Spa in Sutton Coldfield. The tree was assembled over five days by a team of 20 volunteers, including engineers, blowers, and designers, all working under a protective dome that prevents the balloons from popping.
“This has never been done in the U.K. before. People don’t realize the scale of building a balloon Christmas tree,” balloon artist Naomi Spencer, owner of Balloon Color Blending, told the Birmingham Mail.
Spencer conceived the project as a labor of love and a unique holiday attraction. “We had a massive team – we had engineers, blowers and a design team,” she explained.
“We brought together 100,000 biodegradable balloons, precision engineering and a bespoke globe to create something magical — and all while supporting vital local charities,” Spencer continued.
Visitors can sponsor individual balloons for $3.30, purchase a memorial balloon for $13.19, or buy a branded balloon for $165, with all proceeds supporting charitable causes, including The Luca Foundation, Acorns Children’s Hospice, Smile for Joel, Kids Village, Buddy Bag Foundation, Tabor Living, KIDS, Black Country Women’s Aid, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham’s Charity, and Help Harry Help Others, per Talker. Visit Balloon Color Blending for more information.
The tree is open to the public until January 6.
