*Kerry Washington will make her animation debut this summer in Disney-Pixar’s “Cars 3.”
The “Scandal” star voices a red sports car named Natalie Certain, one of the newest members of Lightning McQueen’s speedy crew.
According to Pixar, Natalie is “a highly respected statistical analyst who knows her numbers. Book-smart and mathematically gifted, Certain is a fresh voice in the racing world. While she may earn top marks in her ability to evaluate a racer’s stats, she could be underestimating the importance of determination.”
“She is a super-smarty-pants statistician. She reminds of a statistical analyst on cable news or SportsCenter,” Kerry tells People of her character. “She knows everything there is to know about the ins and outs of statistics when it comes to racing.”
Also joining the latest installment of the franchise is Nathan Fillion (“Castle”) and Lea DeLaria (“Orange Is the New Black”). Armie Hammer, Larry the Cable Guy and Cristela Alonzo also reprise their roles in the film.
“It’s fun, the idea of doing something that the kids can actually enjoy,” said Washington. “Scandal isn’t exactly a Disney Jr. show.”
“Cars 3,” due in theaters on June 16, finds Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) struggling to keep up with a new generation of fast racers. With the help of his crew, he hatches a plan to help him get back in the game.
