*This summer, the stage belongs to the queens. Salt-N-Pepa, TLC, and En Vogue have announced the “It’s Iconic” tour, a joint run spanning the U.S. and Canada that kicks off August 15 in Franklin, Tennessee, and closes out October 11 in Concord, California.
Rather than a traditional set structure, the show is being designed as a continuous, mixtape-style experience where songs flow seamlessly from one to the next, Vibe reports.
Cheryl “Salt” James spoke enthusiastically about what audiences can expect in a video announcing the tour. “I feel like this is going to be the most fun touring experience I’ve ever had. And I feel like we’re going to feel the queens is in the building. We’ve earned this seat … This show is going to be crazy. We’re doing the whole mixtape vibe, coming in and out.”
Each group brings its own compelling story to the stage. Salt-N-Pepa will perform with Spinderella, marking a reunion following well-documented tensions among the members. En Vogue takes the stage with Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron, and Maxine Jones, while TLC continues as the duo of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, with visual tributes woven throughout the show honoring the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
Terry Ellis summed up the significance of the moment, saying, “These ladies represent resilience and empowerment,” she said. “To be a part of that is everything. They’re legends.”
Chilli credited the 1990s for producing music that has proven impossible to outgrow. “The music from the Nineties, it’s just…the lyrical content is great,” she said, pointing to the cross-generational crowds the era’s catalog continues to draw.
““You can put on a song no matter how you’re feeling. Once you hit the 2000s, the lyrical content just changes. The beats are crazy, but it’s just different. And it’s crazy to see eight-year-olds sitting in the audience singing all of the songs,” she added.
